All photos by Stephen Jerrome.Two garden installations at Cornerstone Sonoma, the first set of gallery-style exhibition gardens in the United States.For Bai-Yun (White Cloud), chicken wire was meticulously wrapped into gaseous, cloud-like shapes. 5,000 crystals were hung from the clouds, reflecting sun and moonlight upon decomposed granite undulations. Native Opuntia were transplanted to occupy the site.Red Lantern pays homage to the Chinese workers on the Central Pacific Railroad during the 19th century. A new Urban Woodland Research Center provides education and outreach opportunities in addition to landscape management regimes that take advantage of newly identified urban woodlots. Nestled below Washington Tower, the lot is the burial place of many notable Harvard College alumni. The first phase of work required significant earthwork, slope stabilization and path improvement work to make the lot once again walk-able for visitors. The second phase of work involved extensive naturalistic planting including a new columnar sugar maple canopy, gro-low sumac, aster, witch-alder, mountain laurel, rhododendron, and Solomon's seal. A series of 3d scans were conducted across various seasons to measure the evolution of the lot over time.
