Bai-yun / White Cloud, with Cao-Perrot Studio. Cornerstone Gardens; Sonoma, California. All photos by Stephen Jerrome.
Two garden installations at Cornerstone Sonoma, the first set of gallery-style exhibition gardens in the United States.
For Bai-Yun (White Cloud), chicken wire was meticulously wrapped into gaseous, cloud-like shapes. 5,000 crystals were hung from the clouds, reflecting sun and moonlight upon decomposed granite undulations. Native Opuntia were transplanted to occupy the site.
Red Lantern pays homage to the Chinese workers on the Central Pacific Railroad during the 19th century. Found and submerged planks evoke the rhythmic nature of the railroad ties while hand crafted wire patterns create an ephemeral cloud-like composition.
